What is a remix? A remix is when you take someone else's product and you add your own ideas to it. I try to remix everything in order to make it seem more of my own, from music to clothing remixes. I like to make music and I love taking old sounds and remixing, some producers might call it sampling, and create something else out of it After I ponder on remixes though, I believe i've been doing it for ages now in other ways. For example, in high school all of the kids would be Nike crewneck sweaters, all colors. I had the idea of going into the art room and start putting different outlines on my sweater. Before I knew it i had made half the guys in my class different custom, or perhaps remixed, sweaters. I started to think maybe I could make a little money off of this and started selling some sweaters to surrounding schools and became pretty successful for a while. I realize now that it was a remix because I took Nike's crewneck product that everyone loved, and I put a design on it, remixing it, to make it even more appealing to people.
When I think about all the remixing I have done, it makes me feel good because it expresses by creativity, but it also makes me reconsider ever doing it. I think about how much effort someone put into making a product, and then someone else just taking your idea and changing it and not giving you credit. Imagine I sample an Opera singer to make a hip-hop beat, and then the singer hears it and demands credit because without the singer the song wouldn't be existent. Imagine Nike seeing my product being sold and starts a lawsuit because I took their product and changed it to sell it. All of these situations can be tricky because it is tough to please everyone and it takes time and consent to actually legally sell these products. The original artist is the one which you have to take into consideration and fully understand.
